Introduction to the monument

Castelnau-Bretenoux Castle is an imposing medieval fortified castle situated in the commune of Prudhomat, in the Lot department. Built on a rocky outcrop, it comprises several wings, towers and outdoor areas arranged around an inner courtyard.

The tour route includes numerous steps and staircases, particularly when accessing the furnished apartments and the various levels of the castle.

The monument is partially accessible to people with reduced mobility. Access to the inner courtyard may be difficult for wheelchair users due to the gravel and cobblestone surface. The furnished rooms on the first floor and the artillery tower are not wheelchair accessible.

Please note: the route from the visitor car park to the castle entrance involves a fairly steep incline and may be difficult for people with reduced mobility or who have difficulty walking. The car park is situated below the castle and it takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to walk to the entrance.

To facilitate access, visitors with a disability or reduced mobility can be dropped off by car at the castle esplanade, immediately adjacent to the entrance, where there are two parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility.

If these two spaces are already occupied, the driver may drop off the person with a disability at the esplanade before driving back down to park the vehicle in the visitors’ car park located below.

Please note: the tour route requires an accompanying person for those with reduced mobility, including in certain outdoor areas. 

Individual visitors or small groups

Up to 8 people with disabilities can explore the Château de Castelnau-Bretenoux visitor route independently.

Admission fee:

Admission to the monument is free:

• For any person with a disability and one accompanying person, upon presentation of a valid supporting document (the ‘Invalidité’ and ‘Priorité’ Mobilité Inclusion card for French nationals or an equivalent foreign document), 
• For recipients of the AAH (allowance for adults with disabilities), upon presentation of an AAH certificate issued within the last 6 months. NB: the carer must pay the admission fee.
• For small groups of up to 8 visitors with a disability (excluding carers), subject to prior booking and presentation of a certificate from the relevant organisation.
• A parking permit does not entitle the holder to free admission.

Group visitors

A group consists of 9 or more people with disabilities. 

A group consists of a maximum of 20 people, including carers. 

Each person with a disability may have a maximum of one accompanying person.

All groups must book their visit in advance.

Services: 

There are two options available:

• Self-guided tour: you explore the monument at your own pace using the resources we provide (visitor booklets, subtitled video documentary).
• Adapted and guided tour: depending on your group’s needs and our available resources, we will work with you to design a route that best meets your expectations. During your visit, you will be accompanied by a member of the site’s staff.

Prices:

• Self-guided tour: a flat fee of €20 for groups of 9 to 20 people with disabilities, including carers.
• Adapted and guided tour: a flat rate of €40 for groups of 9 to 20 people with disabilities, including carers.

For groups of more than 20 people, the group will be split into two.
